After publicly speaking about passing on Jay-Z's Roc Nation imprint, Joey Badass revealed that it would take three million dollars for him to sign on the dotted line for a major label.
In a recent interview with The Village Voice, Joey was asked about the terms he's needed in order to sign to a major label. He added,
"Three million [dollars]. Off the top,". When asked if he was truly serious about that, Joey answered "Hell yeah. [It would] get my Mom out the hood."
The young Brooklyn emcee is currently backed by Cinematic Entertainment, who has a distribution deal with Sony Red, a division of Sony Records, which is a major label. However, fellow artists on Cinematic are backed by other labels, such as Big K.R.I.T., who is signed to Def Jam Records, and Smoke Dza, who released his 2012 Rugby Thompson album with Harry Fraud on Nature Sound Records.
In other related news, Joey just released his new mixtape, Summer Knights, earlier today (Monday). The project hosts 17 new tracks and features guest appearances from Kirk Knight, Dirty Sanchez, Nyck Caution, and many more from his Pro Era clique. Listen and download the new mixtape here.
