Jets reportedly looking to give Cousins $60M in first year.

The New York Jets are among several teams looking to sign Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins this off-season, and the Jets are reportedly “willing to pay whatever it takes” to land the veteran QB.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Jets could offer Cousins a five-year $150 million deal with most of that guaranteed, and as much as $60 million guaranteed in the first year.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says the Jets are even willing to fully guarantee Cousins' full contract, which is expected to fall in the $150M range.

"One team already is being pegged in league circles as having the willingness to do it: The Jets. If the Jets will do it, other suitors for Cousins may have no choice but to follow suit."

According to overthecap.com, the Jets have $73.2 million in available cap space, which is the fourth most of any team in the NFL this offseason. Costello notes that the Jets could push the cap space to $92 million, with the expected cuts of defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson and veteran running back Matt Forte.

In addition to the Jets, teams like the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings are all interested in the 29-year old QB. The fun will officially begin on March 12th, when those teams will be allowed to speak with Cousins and other free agents.
