Theophilus London has done something confusing, interesting but impossible to ignroe for the release of his new mixtape. The tape, called Nights B4 BeyBey, is half actual mixtape but also half preview of Theo's upcoming album. What this means is that most of the songs are full tracks, but some of them include a suffix in their title: either "(teaser)" or "(preview)." There's another subtle element that's worth noting too. The songs with features on them don't read "feat. so-and-so" but rather say "c/o" as in "care of," a way of co-crediting that gives more due to the featured, who include CeeLo, Devonte Hynes (Blood Orange) and Giggs.
As for Theophilus himself, he goes by two aliases on this album: NY Theo and LA Theo. It's his first full-length release since 2014's Vibes, which was just that, an album of songs to vibe out to. This tape is more ambitious, though. The style is all over the place and it serves as the debut release of the new record label My BeyBey Records that has been either founded by or is associated with Theophilus London.
