There's no pussyfooting around the notion that Ghostface Killah's Supreme Clientele is an essential part of the hip-hop canon. Brilliantly displaying his unparalleled vernacular, abstract lyricism, and nigh telepathic connection with producer The RZA, Ghost's sophomore project has it all. Though largely tailored to catch the ear of the streets, the project was no entirely void of radio blammers. However, never one to be compromised by extraneous forces, Ghost's "Cherchez La Ghost" earned well-deserved radio play without deviating from the master plan.
Propelled by a pulsating groove, Ghost provides ample time for Madam Majestic's "Cherchez La Femme" interpolation to shine, before sliding in with a brief, energetic verse of his own. Content to play second fiddle to a greater sense of atmosphere, Ghost is pragmatic in his songwriting approach. Likewise for collaborator U-God, who matches Ghostface's brevity with an image-laden verse. It's not often you hear bars like "model dimes from Bahamas,
Slim doo-doo makers stuffed inside pajamas." They simply don't turn a phrase like they used to.
Quotable Lyrics
We passin it, takes the shake your Calvin Klein
Before the floor gets moist, taste and follow mine
Swallow nine, model dimes from Bahamas
Slim doo-doo makers stuffed inside pajamas
