Knxwledge's issues out beat tapes like a parishioner combing through their notes. The beatmaker noted for his work with Paak and Kendrick Lamar, among others, returns with c, a beat tape tinged with memories of the past, some less insular than others. The album cover borrows the proverb "Poor are those who have eyes but cannot see," words first muttered to describe esoteric knowledge of sacred art and ancient hand-me-downs.
Knxwledge has a habit of releasing material when we least expect it, usually on a quiet weekend afternoon while he catches up on sleep. Included on HEX.PRT12 is Knxwledge's refix of Cardi B's "Be Careful," a song that carries a tone that permeates throughout the beat tape. It's no secret likes to subvert tone and feeling, of the songs he samples. On "ifikudgo" completely flips the script on the Angie Martinez' classic "If I Could Go," upending her bravado with jazzier tones. Knxwledge sure enjoys playing Heinrich von Frankenstein with his cadavers.
Give 'er a listen.
