Eric B. & Rakim, in the midst of their 20th anniversary tour for their classic album Paid In Full, hosted a very interesting special guest at their Irving Plaza show on Monday.
Cynthia Nixon, the former Sex and the City actress and current candidate in the running to become the new Governor of New York state, was introduced during the set.
Nixon announced back in March that she was running to replace current governor Andrew Cuomo back in March, to much excitement and some confusion. While she's best known for her role as Miranda on Sex and the City, she's been politically active for a while, lobbying for the legalization of same sex marriage and the improvement of public transportation. She even made an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show to discuss her support for the legalization of marijuana in New York.
With this endorsement from Eric B. and Rakim, it seems that Nixon is trying to promote herself to hip-hop fans in New York, of which there are a great many.
Her appearance at the show was partially recorded and uploaded to Instagram. In the video, Nixon acknowledges that while "Eric B. is the president," her aim is to become governor. She proceeds to tell the crowd about her life growing up in New York before the video cuts out.
Whether or not Eric B & Rakim's endorsement of Nixon pays off will have to wait until election day. Meanwhile, Cuomo might have to play catch up, maybe by making a video with 6ix9ine?
