Since the days of Crooked I, who initially came to my attention upon discovering “N***az Got Game,” KXNG Crooked has been consistently holding it down as one of hip-hop’s sharpest lyricists. Boasting an undeniable appreciation for the culture, Crooked has time and time again proven himself an authority on the craft, and any lyricist worth their salt will speak highly of the former Slaughterhouse rhymer.
Now a free agent, KXNG Crooked has come through with a re-released take on an old mixtape classic, “Uh Oh.” With an instrumental evocative of some late-nineties Mobb Deep or Xzibit shit, Crooked lays down some impressive multis like only he can. “I draw cannons, I blam it, they fall to the granite like aw damn it,” raps Crooked, before delivering some menacing musings. “Leave your body parts mixed up like a collage,” he raps, “the gangsta I thought saw in your must have been a mirage.”
Anyone who values the tireless art of rhyming words in an effortless manner best dedicate two-minutes and forty-five seconds to the cause. Hopefully, the release of “Uh Oh” and other older gems will herald an impending album from the Long Beach veteran; longtime fans are still waiting for that definitive project. Perhaps, freed from the confines of label expectation and a soured-group dynamic, Crooked can finally flourish.
Quotable Lyrics
Leave your body parts mixed up like a collage
The gangsta I thought I saw in your must have been a mirage
A barrage of bullets from the rocket launcher lodge
Shots in your Bentley Arnage when you clash with the God
