A good Samaritan who was clearing the road of debris was struck and killed in Louisiana on Tuesday by a teenage truck driver. The victim, Sherell L. Lewis Jr., was celebrating his 31st birthday. The driver, Matthew M. Martin, took to Snapchat after he ran over Lewis Jr., and bragged to a friend about the accident. KPLC obtained screenshots of the Snap, and a subsequent conversation, which has been circulating the web. “Y’all i just hit a whole guy on the highway," captioned Martin on a picture of his red truck. When a friend messaged Martin inquiring who he hit, the 18-year old responded "some n****r."
“How did the chevy take it,” his friend replied. “Fuked it up pretty good lol,” wrote Martin. “It’ll buff out,” the friend joked, to which Martin answered, “Yes sir" with a laughing emoji. The friend also asked about the details of the death. “The guy die on impact or what," he inquired. “No he died otw to the hospital,” Martin declared.
Louisiana State Police told KPLC that they were aware of the Snapchat messages and were investigating the accident. Although the statements are disrespectful and appalling, police claim that they are not illegal. Friends of the victim are taking to social media to demand that Martin is charged with killing Lewis Jr. The death has been declared an accident.
