Remember Fargo Fridays? Tory Lanez used to hit us with new material between projects pretty frequently, usually via his weekly delivery system, but those days are gone. Ever since I Told You, Lanez's 2016 debut album, he's been much more stingy with loosies. Luckily, we're now just a few weeks away from his follow-up, Memories Don't Die, which drops on March 2nd. This week, he's in the top ten with a hat trick: a single, a non-album cut, and a feature.
Behind Lanez's three entries in this week's edition of Top Tracks, Gucci Mane and Kendrick Lamar have two apiece. New tracks barely missing out on spots this week include MoneyBagg Yo and Quavo's "Bagg Move" (#11), YG's "Suu Whoop" (#12), Cozz and Kendrick Lamar's "Hustla's Story" (#13), and Tank, Trey Songz, and Ty Dolla $ign's "When We" remix (#14).
10. Kodak Black Feat. Tory Lanez - Fuck With You
For a Valentine's Day present last week, Kodak Black came through with Heart Break Kodak, an attempt follow in the footsteps of Future's HNDRXX and Chief Keef's Thot Breaker and display his pop/melodic instincts. "Fuck With You," a track from the album featuring none other than Tory Lanez, debuts at #10.
9. Kendrick Lamar & Travis Scott - Big Shot
While Black Panther (the film) debut this past week to huge box office numbers, Black Panther (the album) saw its numbers slide, at least on our chart. The only track remaining from the three that appeared in last week's top ten is Kendrick and Travis' "Big Shot," which is down eight places from #1 to #9 in its second week out.
8. 6LACK - Cutting Ties
While he hasn't announced any formal details for his follow-up to his breakout album, 6LACK has made it known that he's hard at work on the project. We're not sure if "Cutting Ties" is a single or a loosie, but it arrived on Valentine's Day and makes its debut at #8.
7. Tory Lanez - B.I.D.
Following the release of a non-album track the week prior, Lanez returned with a Zane Lowe-premiered Memories Don't Die single called "B.I.D." This buoyant, melodic jam debuts at #7.
6. Tory Lanez - March 2nd
Only two tracks remain on as holdovers from last week's top ten: Kendrick and Travis' "Big Shot," which fell eight places, and Lanez's "March 2nd," which sit unchanged at number six. People are clearly dying for new Tory, as this one remains steady at #6 in its second week out.
5. Tyga Feat. Gucci Mane - Sip A Lil
Joining Kodak Black in the fast-growing category of rappers dropping poppy, quasi-"love" albums is Tyga, who presented us with the furry-friendly Kyoto this past week. The Gucci Mane-assisted "Sip A Lil," one of the album's highlights, debuts at #5.
4. Frank Ocean - Moon River
We knew Frank was unpredictable, but an Audrey Hepburn cover?! The elusive talent knocks his take on "Moon River," taken from the soundtrack of 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's, out of the park, and winds up with a #4 debut.
3. Nipsey Hussle Feat. Kendrick Lamar - Dedication
Nip rewarded his loyal fans with his long overdue album Victory Lap this past week, and a few days before the drop, he ramped up anticipation by sharing a collab with his city's most prominent rapper, Kendrick. "Dedication" received near-universal user acclaim (92%), and debuts at #3.
2. Cozz Feat. J. Cole - Zendaya
New Frank and J. Cole in the same week? Some stars must be aligned. The Dreamville boss lent an assist to his signee Cozz on "Zendaya," a track from the latter's new album, Effected. This one debuts at #2.
1. A$AP Rocky, Gucci Mane & 21 Savage - "Cocky"
Forthcoming basketball flick Uncle Drew received a major boost in publicity this week thanks to a trailer slotted before Black Panther and a star-studded track from its soundtrack. The murderer's row of heavyweights on "Cocky" includes Rocky, GuWop, 21, and London On Da Track, who produced the soundtrack cut. "Cocky" fittingly debuts at #1.
