Kemba Walker's days in Charlotte might be numbered.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hornets are willing to part ways with the All Star point guard and begin a full rebuild. In fact, Woj says the Hornets are "encouraging teams to make offers."
Ideally, the Hornets would like to package Walker in a trade with one of their less desirable contracts, such as Nicholas Batum, Dwight Howard or Marvin Williams.
Adrian Wojnarowski writes:
"The Hornets had already made available Nicolas Batum (four years, $100 million), Dwight Howard (two years, $47 million), Marvin Williams (three years, $42 million) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (three years, $39 million), league sources said, but those players and their contracts are largely unattractive in the marketplace."
The 27-year old point guard, coming off an All Star season in 2017, is averaging 21.7 points and 5.8 assists per game this season. He's due to make $12 million per season through 2018-19.
With an 18-25 record, the Hornets are sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and four games back of the Philadelphia 76ers who are currently holding onto the 8th and final playoff spot. That said, Kemba Walker has told reporters that he'd be "devastated" if he was traded away from the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
Whatever happens we'll find out soon enough as the NBA's February 8th trade deadline is quickly approaching.
