Talks of Freeform's (formerly ABC Family) first superhero television program began in 2016, when it was rumoured that the channel would be acquiring the rights to produce a Marvel series called Cloak and Dagger. Now, the studio has released its first sneak preview of the upcoming live action adaptation, which will premiere June 7 on the network.
The first clip released is fairly formulaic in the girl-meets-boy narrative; however, things get more interesting when the two begin running through a cemetery, and it is revealed that Tandy a.k.a Dagger (played by Olivia Holt) may have some super powers at her disposal when her hands begin to glow. This revelation seemingly startles Tyrone, a.k.a Cloak, whose superpowers are not introduced in this teaser snippet.
Marvel released a press statement to further define the narrative and contextual implications of their latest foray into TV. The company explains how the series will portray "the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph)—two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging."
