Geno Smith to start for the Giants this weekend.

The New York Giants have just announced that Eli Manning has been benched, meaning Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback for the G-Men this Sunday when take on the Raiders in Oakland. It also means Eli's streak of 210 consecutive starts, the second longest for a QB in NFL history, comes to an end (H/T Field Yates).

Manning, who has started every game for the Giants since November 21, 2004 has thrown for 2,411 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

Here's what Eli had to say about the move, per ESPN's Adam Schefter,

“Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play. My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won't finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can."‬

Ben McAdoo, head coach of the 2-9 Giants, said while Geno is set to start this Sunday the team will also look at rookie Davis Webb over the remaining five games of the season. Geno has not started since Week 7, 2016 when he was a member of the New York Jets.
