The voice of Southern rappers has been extremely prominent in the recent political climate. Artists like Killer Mike, T.I., David Banner and more have used their platform as a way to raise awareness and speak on the Trump administration and the harmful laws they've passed since Donald Trump began campaigning. Big Boi's someone who's been about his community and helping the people. That's why he suggests people need to start being mindful for who they vote for.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Big Boi spoke on his recent signing with L.A. Reid, politics and more. He was asked about his relationship with Reid following the allegations of sexual harrassment which he responded with "I don’t know nothing about that." That later led to politics and he's feelings on Donald Trump. He explained that if Trump could get into office, anyone else can because politics is essentially a popularity contest. However, because of Trump's slick talk, he said that people need to be more careful with who they choose to lead the nation.
"If Donald Trump can be the president, anybody can be. So, shit, Oprah Winfrey, King T’Challa from Black Panther, Rosie Perez, Steve Harvey -- it’s a popularity contest." He said. "Put somebody in there that’s going to help you, not just tell you what you want to hear. That’s a pimp: “Bitch, we’re going to take over the world. You’re going to go down here and sell some pussy, and we’re going to take over.” He talks a good game, but you’ve got to be careful who you follow."
Later on, he said that the possibility of running for Mayor wouldn't be far fetched. He even said that if he were governor, he'd want Killer Mike to be the mayor. Either way, it seems as if politics is possible in his future but it doesn't look like it'll be happening any time soon.
