Earlier today, Rich Homie Quan posed an interesting question. "Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like music now a days doesn’t have content or morals ????" Rest assured, Rich Homie Quan, it's not just you. Plenty of older fans have lamented today's youth (with certain rappers in particular coming to mind) over their behavior and lyrical content, which can occasionally be on the shallow side. While certain rappers like ScHoolboy Q, Gucci Mane, and Kendrick Lamar have embraced the youth movement, others have taken a little bit more of a "get off my lawn" approach. As it stands, Rich Homie Quan isn't exactly feeling today's musical vibe.
As the discussion branched off on his Twitter page, he cited YFN Lucci and Moneybagg Yo as some exemplary new rappers. Unfortunately, Quan didn't name any of the detractors, but it would be interesting to know which song prompted this tweet in the first place. You already know he had to have heard something that left him feeling some type of way. To be honest, the criticism seems a little unfounded, as plenty of younger artists are exploring interesting and meaningful territory. Joyner Lucas' "I'm Not Racist," or XXXTentacion's 17 album come to mind.
Still, Rich Homie Quan isn't alone in wondering what's become of modern day hip-hop. Is he out of line for calling out today's music, or has it always been this way? Hopefully, this is an indication that his upcoming Rich As In Spirit will provide what he feels the game's been lacking.
