The 2018 Grammy Awards are approaching fast and, earlier this morning, we brought you the list of this year's nominees. Unsurprisingly, given the fact that hip-hop is now the de facto genre of choice for an increasing number of music consumers, many of the genre's biggest names have been nominated in several categories.
Jay-Z scored nominations in major categories like Record of the Year and Album of the Year for his work on 4:44, while Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. earned him seven nominations total. SZA, Khalid and Lil Uzi Vert have also been named as Grammy nominees in the category of Best New Artist, going up against the likes of Alessia Cara and Julia Michaels. The year's pool for the best rap album will definitely be hotly contested, with Kendrick and Jay having to compete against Migos' Culture, Rapsody's Laila's Wisdom and Tyler, The Creator's Flower Boy. After Beck's somewhat suprising triumph over Beyoncé in 2015 for Album of the Year, it looks like hip-hop and R&B music have finally taken over the major Grammy categories in terms of popularity.
Speaking of R&B, fan favorites Bruno Mars and Childish Gambino will be squaring off against each other in multiple categories including Record of the Year, for "24k Magic" and "Redbone" respectively. Mars also scored a nod for Song of the Year on the strength of his Platinum-selling single "That's What I Like." In the same category, Logic is also making his presence felt after being nominated for his song "1-800-273-8255." Finally, in the category for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the field of fan favorites is once again a crowd one, with SZA, Khalid, 6lack, Childish Gambino and The Weeknd all getting their most recent LP's nominated.
So much quality up and down the list, but sadly there can only be one winner. Cast your vote for who you think should win for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best New Artist below. If you feel like your favorite artist was snubbed for a major award, let your feelings be known in the comments section.
