The rap game runs deep. While parity does exist, there remain several franchise players consistently basking in the praise, visibility, and accolades. Artists like Eminem, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z come to mind; whenever they drop something, it seems as if the entire game stops and pays attention. That's not to say they haven't earned it. Generally, with great ubiquity comes a great discography. Yet the talent pool is deeper than it appears. Plenty of rappers have been putting out excellent material for years, receiving only a fraction of the shine.
As any hip-hop fan knows, part of the fun is engaging in the inevitable top-ten debates. And while many people tend to feel obliged to insert the legends out of sheer principle, there often remains room for the "niche" pick, also known as the "hipster pick." Generally, it's reserved for a periphery spot, for an artist you feel deserves more shine then generally allotted. Doubtless, you've found yourself in a situation where you were rattling off your top ten, and proceeded to dazzle all with your obscure, perpetually slept on dark horse selection.
Therefore, in honor of National Napping Day (a strange custom, which unfortunately goes unrecognized by pretty much every single employer), we'd like to open the floor for a simple discussion. Who is the most slept on rapper in the game? Be sure to sound off in the comments section, as we're eager to hear what everyone's feeling.
Personally, I'd throw Denzel Curry, J.I.D, EarthGang, and Mick Jenkins into the mix. What about ya'll?
