Gronk could be next athlete to sign with WWE.

After inking former MMA champion Ronda Rousey to a contract earlier this year, the WWE has reportedly set their sights on another high profile athlete. New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski appears to be next in line, because of course.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE is looking to sign Gronk and they're prepared to offer him a deal similar to the one they gave Rousey, who made her WWE debut at the Royal Rumble PPV last month.

Gronkowski has already been part of a WWE storyline so it's not surprising that the WWE is looking to lure him back for a part-time role. The 28-year old tight end helped his good friend, WWE wrestler Mojo Rawley, win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 33 last April. He also made an appearance a few nights after Wrestlemania and got involved in another of Rawley's matches.

According to TMZ Sports, Rawley recently described Gronk joining WWE by saying, "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of WHEN," before back peddling and adding, “I don’t know. I can’t speak for him. Whatever he wants to do.”

Following the Patriots' loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII, Gronkowski left the door open regarding his future in the NFL which only adds more intrigue to his potential move to the WWE.
