Wofford shocks #5 UNC.

Heading into last night's game at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill, the Wofford men's basketball team had never upset a Top-25 team, let alone a team ranked 5th in the country like the UNC Tar Heels.

But, that's why they play the games.

The Wofford Terriers stunned the defending champs on their home court last night, 79-75, snapping UNC's 23-game home winning streak behind 27 points from Fletcher Magee. The Terriers led by as many as 14 points in the second half and although UNC closed the game late in the game, their Junior guard, Magee, responded every time.

"You come in here and see all these banners, you better believe you can play," coach Mike Young said in a postgame interview on ESPN. "Awfully proud of these guys. This is a terrific win, it'll make the Christmas holiday more enjoyable."

"Needless to say Fletcher hit some big shots for us," Young said. "We had a lot of guys play well."

Last night's win marks Wofford's second victory against an ACC team this season, following their win against Georgia Tech two weeks ago. The team that was predicted to finish sixth in the Southern Conference is now riding a five-game winning streak heading into league play against UNC Greensboro on December 30th.

Not only was the win in Chapel Hill a huge deal for the Wofford basketball program, but it is also viewed as the most valuable win of the season by any team so far.
