Sunday evening, the iHeartRadio Music Awards were packed to the brim of electrifying performances from some of the industry’s biggest names, but one of the night’s more emotional and appreciated moments came in the form of Eminem’s live rendition of his cut “Nowhere Fast” alongside Kehlani.
It was Big Sean who accompanied Alex Moscou, a survivor of Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left seventeen dead, as the duo introduced the performance of a track that beautifully unpacks the ugliness of the world. In their introduction Sean alluded to his mother purchasing him a copy of The Slim Shady LP in 1999 while Alex took the opportunity to call on audience members and those watching at home to join the national "March for Our Lives" movement on March 24th which seeks to challenge the American government’s gun control laws.
“We're tired of hearing politicians send their thoughts and prayers to us and doing nothing to make the necessary changes to prevent this tragedy from happening again," Alex declared. "If those elected to represent won't do what's right to keep us safe, we're going to be too loud for them to ignore."
Soon, Em and Kehlani would be performing their collaboration to the backdrop of a live band and string section, making for a poignant moment in today’s landscape.
