Lauryn Hill's sentencing on tax evasion charges is tomorrow, but the singer has reportedly paid off her $900,000 tax debt today, just in time. Lauryn Hill was ordered two weeks ago to pay off her outstanding debt, and soon after, it was revealed she had signed a new deal with Sony. After which, she tried to disconnect her new deal from her need for $900,000, leaving a lengthy explanation on her Tumblr.
Now, Reuters reports that Ms. Hill has paid off her debt, and apparently didn't use any money from her new deal to do it. Her attorney, Nathan Hochman, confirmed, "Ms Hill has not only now fully paid prior to sentencing her taxes, which are part of her criminal restitution, but she has additionally fully paid her federal and state personal taxes for the entire period under examination through 2009."
Hochman revealed that Lauryn had lined up a loan last month secured by two pieces of real estate. Her debt repayment came from those two sources, and did not include any record sales funds.
Lauryn was facing up to a year in jail per charge of tax evasion during the years 2005-2007, but her attorney expects that the final sentence will be adjusted, based off her debt repayment.
We'll update you after her sentencing takes place tomorrow.
