Earlier this week the two time defending Slam Dunk Contest champion Zach LaVine announced that he will not be competing in the 2017 Dunk Contest, robbing us all of the much anticipated rematch against Aaron Gordon.
On the bright side, Gordon is reportedly in for the contest. But who will his challengers be?
For one, Phoenix Suns' rookie Derrick Jones Jr. The 6'7 small forward doesn't get in the game much but we're not talking about playing time we're talking about dunks and this kid can throw down with the best of 'em.
And that's why the NBA has invited him to take part in this year's Dunk Contest.
He hasn't accepted the invitation just yet but it'd be a surprise if he turns down the offer to compete in the Dunk Contest during All-Star weekend.
