Wasiu is evidence of some of the forward-thinking sounds popping right now in Montreal, the town that's often overlooked as "the 6" is the only Canadian hub that receives any American attention. Today, the gritty-rhyming emcee has dropped the video to "Outer Space," off his September EP MTLiens.
The track begins with a club-heavy sound that's informed by underground bass music and a hint of grime. Wasiu starts rapping forcefully with a steady, rumbling flow, and the video puts him in a minimal, monochromatic landscape that's empty save for a monolith inspired by Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey." About halfway through the track, producers Noah Barer and Cavework switch up the beat into a light backdrop that's driven by a melody of delicate chimes. The monolith begins to reflect a glorious sunset with the shift in sound, and the sensory influx is about what one would expect with the type of space travel that Wasiu has been experiencing.
