The Underachievers' 2016 mixtape It Happened in Flatbush departed from the psychedelic realm of their 2015 album Evermore - The Art of Duality to the land of bangers. It appears that the Brooklyn duo is about to take another right turn. They have announced a new project called Renaissance and released its first track, "Gotham Nights."
Produced by Joshua Heflinger, "Gotham Nights" is a nostalgic tribute to '90s New York City rap. The Underachievers offer a humble prayer that a higher power will keep them "segregated from haters."
Listen to the song while in a car, or while on a subway train trundling over the Williamsburg Bridge at dusk.
Quotable Lyrics
You need your ego to walk on this Earth
God equipped with everything that you needed since giving birth
You ain't got nothing inside your makeup, that shit ain't work
In this world, niggas is born with their names all on a hearse
