Last week, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced The Hamilton Mixtape and revealed one of the most star-studded tracklists mankind has ever seen. Now he's releasing songs from the 23-track project.
"My Shot" is an expansion on the song of the same name that appears in "Hamilton." Black Thought, Joell Ortiz, and Busta Rhymes take a verse apiece, each of them harping on the familiar 'one opportunity' trope. Black Thought handles hook duties, repeating the sentiment Alexander Hamilton puts forth in the original song: "Yo I'm just like my country / I'm young, scrappy and hungry."
The Hamilton Mixtape is out December 2nd. Pre-order it here.
Quotable Lyrics
When even role models tell us we're born to be felons
We're never gettin' into Harvard or Carnegie Mellon
And we gon' end up either robbin' somebody or killin'
It's not fair that's all they can tell us
That's why you hustle hella hard, never celebrate a holiday
That'll be the day I coulda finally hit the lottery
I refuse to ever lose or throw my shot away
Or chalk it up as just another one that got away
