Nicki Minaj has been taking MTV to task for not properly honoring "Anaconda' with a Video Of The Year nomination. Her tweets throughout the day have suggested that despite her video visibly influencing popular culture, she has not been properly acknowledged for it.
"Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it," she wrote, adding, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year".
It seems that Taylor Swift, who was nominated for the top prize for her "Bad Blood" video, had been following the tweets, and felt some type of way about them, as she mentioned Nicki, assuming the rapper was subtweeting her.
"I've done nothing but love & support you," she said. "It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.."
Nicki quickly replied, suggesting Taylor was not the target of her statements. "Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this," she said, later responding to a comment about people missing the point with "They're not missing the point, they're just attempting to overshadow the point. Oldest trick in the book".
Check out the tweets below. Will Nicki be pulling a Kanye at the VMAs this year?
Update: Taylor has offered to bring Minaj up on stage if she wins the award.
