The annual Roots Picnic is going down this year at the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia on Saturday, May 31. The seventh annual event has announced the performers lined up today. Of course the Roots will be headlining, alongside Snoopp Dogg.
Other artists tapped to perform include Action Bronson, Janelle Monáe, A$AP Ferg, Jhené Aiko, Just Blaze, Rudimental, Araabmuzik, and Biz Markie, among others. Peep the full line-up in a flyer in the gallery above. Does it look like a solid line-up to you? Who'll be attending?
The Roots' Black Thought recently detailed their forthcoming concept album, which is titled & Then You Shoot Your Cousin. In his own words, "We’re close to being done on it, it’s coming soon, hopefully sometime this Spring. It’s called And Then You Shoot Your Cousin. It’s conceptual; it’s another concept album in the spirit of Undun, but it’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record. It’s satire, but in that satire it’s an analysis of some of the stereotypes perpetuated in not only the hip-hop community, but in the community. I don’t know if that makes any sense."
