Rihanna was the guest of honor at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards. The Barbadian star performed four times and accepted the 2016 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard. Last year, Kanye West was the Vanguard recipient... we all remember how that went.
Drake was bestowed the honor of introducing the award and personally handing it to Rihanna. “She’s someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old,” he said. “She’s one of my best friends in the world."
Rihanna thanked her family, friends, fans, country, support team, and Champagne Papi. “My success, it started as my dream, but now my success is not my own—it’s my family’s, it’s my fans’, it’s the Caribbean as a whole, it’s women, it’s black women," she said.
