Rico Richie is slowly becoming a nationwide success, with his single "Poppin" that coined the very wise phrase, "if you ain't got no haters you ain't poppin." The Atlanta native dropped off his mixtape, Realest Story Ever Told, earlier this week, which contains the hit record as well as his collaboration with Young Thug "We Dem." Before Rico was arrested for marijuana and guns, the rapper stopped by the office in NYC and gave us a breakdown on his success, seeing French Montana, Chris Brown & Meek Mill remix his record, and more.
"I made the song four months ago," Rico said of the amount of time it took for the record to take off. As for the remix, "It was a situation where, I was in contact with them after they did it, talked to 'em see what was gunna be what. Ultimately it was something they wanted to do, basically for fun, they just loved the song. It was a situation where the way I wanted to do it, and the way they wanted to do it didn't necessarily line up, so they just did them. But I been in contact with all of them. We putting together an official remix for it right now."
Rico Richie went on to say he'd love to hear a full Meek verse on the record. The newcomer goes on to talk about linking up with DJ Drama, his collaboration with Young Thug, and more.
