It all started with Havoc, Prodigy's group member in Mobb Deep, taking shots at Prodigy on Twitter. The whole thing was pretty ridiculous, Havoc confirmed, then denied that it was actually him tweeting.
Prodigy recently sat down with Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg for their Morning Show on Hot 97, and Rosenberg confronted him about what actually happened, asking if it was all a publicity stunt, because Prodigy has a book and two new singles coming out.
Prodigy says, "I can't even tell you how it happened. All I can say is that, when we got down to the bottom of it, me and Hav realized what was going on, we knew it was all bogus you know what I mean. So we kept kinda quiet, we ain't say nothing about it, we ain't get up on Twitter and be like yo,right away it's bogus, so that's probably why people think we set it up or something, you know what I mean. But we just waited for a minute."
Prodigy clarifies that all the original tweets from Havoc were fake (i.e. not tweeted by Havoc), upon Rosenberg asking.
"Me and Havoc's businessmen," explained Prodigy. "We stepped back and was like, 'Alright, how can we use this to our advantage?'" Admitting they kept quiet about the "beef" on purpose.
"We were like, 'Alright, we got a record about to drop,'" he added.
Rosenberg responded, "So you're acknowledging that once it became big, you said, 'We might as well milk it for what it's worth,'" which Prodigy then confirmed.
