Lin-Manuel Miranda rolled out two more songs from his forthcoming The Hamilton Mixtape this morning: Usher's "Wait For It" and "Wrote My Way Out," a collaboration between Miranda, Nas, Dave East, and Aloe Blacc.
"Wrote My Way Out" takes its direction from a line on the 'Hamilton' track "Hurricane." While we have come to expect greatness from Nas and Dave East, the pleasant surprise turns out to be Miranda, who demonstrates impressive poise on the mic, as well as the sort of writing chops that took him from Washington Heights to stardom: "This Puerto Rican's brains are leakin' through the speakers, and if he can be the shining beacon this side of the G.W.B."
The Hamilton Mixtape is out December 2nd. Check out the star-studded tracklist here and pre-order it here.
Quotable Lyrics
I picked up the pen like Hamilton
Street analyst, now I write words that try to channel them
No political power, just lyrical power
Sitting on a crate on a corner, sipping for hours
