In December, South Jersey upstarts Mir Fontane and Ish Williams sought to put their region on the map by creating a record inspired by Camden’s native son, Dajuan Wagner, the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard who’s known in his home state as “Wanni Wag,” which became the title of the duo’s chilly club anthem.
After bringing out their respective hoods for the “Wanni Wag” video, the Roca Beats-produced record quickly became the regional smash that Fontane and Williams had hoped for. And it soon caught the ears of a couple of Jersey’s top hip-hop talents, including GOOD Music producer Charlie Heat. After putting in extensive work on The Life of Pablo, Heat hit up the Southside youngsters to inquire about a possible “Wanni Wag” remix.
That remix is here today, and Heat has added his signature pulsing drum work to “Wanni Wag," along with a menacing bassline that amplifies the brooding energy of the original into a fearsome blast of adrenaline. Heat's version also includes a brand new verse from OVO rapper/producer and Willingboro native Mike Zombie.
South Jersey stand up!
