Ocean Drive

Listen to a new summer jam from NC trap singer Mikey: "Ocean Drive."

Mikey, the North Carolina artist fka Mike West, continues his prolific year with a new track, "Ocean Drive," which he produced in tandem with his go-to producer, Remy. Since making his debut in May with the K Swisha-produced "2am," Mikey has proven himself capable of laying catchy, melodic vocals over all sorts of eclectic, trap-leaning productions. "Ocean Drive" is a different type of sound for Mikey, as the instrumental doesn't rely on glossy synths, and is instead made up of a snappy percussion loop and a lo-fi bassline that bounces softly behind it. The "Ocean Drive" beat has an '80s feel to it, but it pairs surprisingly well with Mikey's trap soul vocals. He makes good use of the negative space and keeps a steady tempo throughout the track. The hook is a real winner, simply relaying how it must feel to coast down Ocean Drive with a bad shorty riding shotgun.

"Ocean Drive" is Mikey's second track in the past two weeks, following "FWM," produced by New Jersey's Young N Fly. You can download both tracks on Mikey's SoundCloud

They ain't for real, I know that they pretend
Count up the money, that's my only friend
