Young North Carolina artist Mike West has just dropped off a song, "2am," that sounds like it could be his breakout hit. He's only been releasing music for a year or so, though most all of his songs have attained impressive numbers on his SoundCloud. West is an R&B singer with light, spontaneous vocals and a keen sense of melody. For "2am," he's linked with Private Club producer K Swisha, who's earned a name for himself as the man behind some of Madeintyo's biggest hits.
Though the drums are hard and trappy, Swisha builds a winding melody using a strange mix of harps and flutes, and thus, the mood is more pleasant and relaxed than the average trap-inspired slow jam. One can definitely imagine West's vocals landing on a catchy radio hit, though he keeps a refreshing air of unpredictability, and hopefully, he'll continue to work with eclectic ATL producers like Swisha.
