We're not sure if we can still call Macklemore and Ryan Lewis underground anymore-- the duo have now not only gone 5x platinum with their lead single "Thrift Shop" but the album it's off, The Heist, has gone gold as well.
As RapRadar reports, their debut LP, which was released independently, has done quite a feat and gone gold just six months after its release. This means they've sold more than 500,000 copies to date (reportedly they've sold 526,000 copies total).
This may come as no surprise, as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have become a mainstay on our weekly charts update, Charts Don't Lie. The album has consistently stayed near the top of the charts for some time now.
Congrats to the duo!
[Update: Album Goes Platinum]
Shortly after sweeping at the VMAs, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' independent album, The Heist, has reached platinum status. The project moved 19,000 copies this week, for a grand total of 1,017,000.
Congratulations to the duo and the whole Shark Face Gang!
