Gucci Mane is an influential figure in Atlanta rap, not only in music, but in fashion. That much is clear when looking at Lil Yachty's new chain, which puts his signature red braids on a Bart Simpson piece. In a post debuting the new Jon Guven-designed jewelry on Instagram, Yachty gave a shout-out to his OG Gucci Mane for the inspiration.
For those unfamiliar, Gucci Mane's Bart Simpson chain, which he rocked in the late aughts, has become one of the more iconic pieces in rap history. It was the beginning of Gucci's infatuation with flashy, cartoonish jewelry he's upheld to this day. In a recent interview on Highly Questionable, Guwop revealed the price of the famous chain. "[It] was like 75k just for the charm," he said. "I just liked the colors, I just liked the shine. There wasn't really no meaning, I just like to stunt."
As for Yachty's piece, the rapper shared a caption that found him relating to Bart. "I will not be like these other rappers. I will not be like these other rappers. I will not be like these other rappers. I will not be like these other rappers," he wrote, referencing the opening chalkboard gag from The Simpsons. He also pointed out that the piece featured the 1017 Bird logo on the back, making it clear where the inspiration came from.
Later on, he tweeted "I got a iced out Bart where my heart used to be," referencing a Gucci lyric from a classic mixtape cut.
Yachty collaborated with Gucci Mane on "Bentley Coupe" in 2016. He was a guest at Gucci's 2017 Coachella set.
