California rap can be pretty provincial, as rappers and producers of the subgenre often prefer to stay within the confines of the prevailing Mustard/Bay Area sound. This is not the case with up and coming Lashaun Ellis, who hails from Temecula, CA and, as evidenced by his latest track "Almost," has a trappier aesthetic than many of his West Coast peers.
The production on "Almost" enshrouds Ellis' delivery in a fog of swirling synths and thundering 808s, a style he also utilized on recent banger "30 Thousand," which was produced by Toronto's Prezident Jeff.
Ellis is currently putting in work on a new EP, be on the look out.
Quotable Lyrics
Spent a little time in the struggle, remember
We ain't had no winter clothes in the winter
We ain't had no fucking money, remember?
