NBA sneakerhead PJ Tucker isn’t the only member of the Association with a taste for fine footwear. Los Angeles Laker guard Nick Young has been spotted wearing all sorts of footwear throughout his nine year career, including two different pairs of Yeezy Boost 750s. He recently left Nike and joined Adidas, and spoke to Sole Collector about switching shoe deals.
The shooting guard reflected on his short time without a shoe deal, saying, “I was thinking of all kind of shoes I could wear.” While he didn’t go as far as former NBA player Gilbert Arenas and wear straight up fashion sneakers (aside from the Yeezys, of course), he did get to delve into Arenas’ old collection of signature Adidas kicks.
As for why Nick Young decided to jump ship from the Swoosh? “Nike is really only three people. Kobe, Durant and Lebron,” Iggy Azalea's boo explained. “I like the concept of how adidas adds everybody in their shoe commercial.” Aside from the added spotlight adidas was willing to shed on its lower tier players, the Laker also cited Kanye West as a big reason for getting on board.
“That helped adidas out a trillion times,” laughed Young, “and of course I asked for the whole Kanye collection. Bring me everything.” It’s crazy the lengths some people go to get Kanye’s Yeezy Boosts. Nick Young even switched sneaker companies.
