Orlando rapper Kim makes a strong first impression with "Ali," beginning as an inspirational ode to the legendary boxer, before transitioning into a tribute to the victims of the Pulse club shooting earlier this year. While the first half of the song is triumphant and aspirational, the second half is suitably delicate and melodic. "I saw a world message. This is my home and as an artist it's my responsibility to speak on it," says Kim, who, living in the city, undoubtedly felt terrifyingly close to the shooting. He stands proudly and defiantly with the victims of the attack, singing, "They gon' have to hit us harder than that." "Ali" is set to appear on an upcoming project from Kim, which is yet to be titled.
Quotable Lyrics:
Whether you are Muslim, Christian
They turning us against us
Should we be submissive?
Or turn into the vicious?
I'm growing more possessive
'Bout my people
Caring less for my possessions
