In the past, Southern spitter Kevin Gates has likened himself to Luca Brasi, Don Corleone's notorious bodyguard in the Godfather series. Today he returns toting a new mafia reference: John Gotti. The NYC mob boss, always a favorite among rappers, has recently popped up in Young Thug lyrics ("Whippin' up the dope I feel like John Gotti!"), and now is given an entire song by Gates, who outfits the Teflon Don with his face tats on the cover.
Gates' beyond-croaky voice at the beginning of this track may leave wanting to clear your throat, but fear not, he soon drops that delivery in favor of a more energized one. In retrospect, intro'ing the track like that provides some nice variety.
Y'all feeling this one?
Quotable Lyrics:
Praise to Allah, I was born a God, with the murder game I'm righteous
Cancel shows just for razor wet, and I don't know another just like it
I love Bunker, but despite the love, I don't know what made him dislike it
But me and Gunner in the Porsche truck and we screechin' off like lightning
