As the much-debated MTV "Hottest MCs In The Game" list continues to unfold (we're currently at #3 spot-- which was given to Rick Ross-- thoughts?), rappers and critics continue to give their two cents on the list. We've already heard from A$AP Rocky and Kanye West who are both unhappy with their ranking. Today, Kendrick Lamar weighs in on how important the list is.
K. Dot says the list is very important for the game, as it keeps up the competitive spirit within hip-hop."It’s very important for hip-hop," the Compton native said. "I love that they have debates like that. We need that. It’s competitive. Even though we doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It’s still competitive and I’m trying to compete with everybody to be the best."
Kendrick continued, "When people feel like they need to make their comments, I feel that’s needed. You’re supposed to feel like you’re the best ’cause if you don’t, you gon’ get stepped on ’cause it’s a jungle out there."
When asked if he had heard about Kanye West's passionate reaction to his placement as #7 on the list, Kendrick said, "I heard about it. Be passionate for sure."
The TDE rapper continued to say whether or not if he felt 'Ye deserved a higher spot on the list,"Definitely. I mean, it's Kanye. He been putting in work for years. I'm just figuring out how they judge it though, they judge it through out the year, so I dunno how that works with the roundtable."
