If you're wondering who's next up from Chance The Rapper's Save Money crew, it could very well be Joey Purps. The rapper is working towards a new project, iiiDrops, due out in May some time. It turns out Purps loves the jazz-inspired instrumentals just as much as Chance, as his new collaboration, arriving this afternoon, features a plethora of horn arrangements, marching band drums and more. It's produced by Thelonious Martin (that's not very surprising, now is it?), with additional production from Save Money affiliates Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, J.P Floyd, and Knox Fortune. The record finds Joey detailing his neighborhood in the Chi, and his life growing up there, offering comparisons to other neighborhoods.
Take a listen, and stay tuned for iiiDrops.
Quotable Lyrics
I used to hit the blunt and get lifted
And then envision, making college tuition flipping a 100 chickens
Now I bang the corners were killers used to inhabit
They built a row of new condos where they tore down project buildings
Raised by the movers and shakers and life-takers
Proper preparation, prepare for where life takes us
Blame it on the family structure, ask the news anchor
But the teacher only taught us excuses for our behavior
