Jay IDK ended a brief hiatus yesterday with the release of two songs, "Mentality (A)" and "Somebody (B)."
Produced by Noo$e, Nate Fox (of the Social Experiment), and Jay IDK, "Somebody (B)" samples either Slum Village's "Players" or its source material, '70s jazz vocalist quartet The Singers Unlimiited's "Clair." Or, given the numerous vocals credited on "Somebody (B)," they might have interpolated the original recording to avoid paying royalties.
At any rate, "Somebody (B)" is more upbeat, more silky smooth, more purely confident than its more neurotic counterpart "Mentality (A)." Both have their strengths. Which are you feeling more?
Quotable Lyrics
They don't know I'm poised
They don't know I'm smart
They don't know my heart
Really in this music shit that I make
It's really authentic, never fake
