It's no secret that fans of Jay Electronica have been impatiently waiting on his debut album, Act II: Patents Of Nobility, for close to four years, but yesterday Jay gave them a faint glimmer of hope. Unexpectedly contributing to an Act II thread on hip-hop forum "Kanye To The," Electronica answered fans' questions and cleared up some things about his studio album. Most importantly, he promised that the album would drop later this year. Read some of his responses below.
When asked if July 12th was the release date (as hinted by a previous tweet):
"No sir.. but i promise you its coming this year and I'm about to heat the game up and charge the particles so high..."
On the cause of the many delays:
"its been me. life etc. Jay and the Label never press me about it or hinder me. Full support and love. Ive just been away on my own accord. again, we are in THE TURN."
On the accuracy of the tracklist leaked two years ago:
"slightly different but only by a few centimetres and a few new records."
On his favorite verse:
"better in tune. is my favourite verse to date. That and the one i spit on Mac Miller’s album. But that one is for selfish reasons."
On working with Kanye West:
"indeed. we spent about a week together in london before he moved to paris during the WTT days, but id like to get back in w him for a few more go’s. I love Kanye."
On Yeezus:
"i loved it, but the media crucified him and slandered him because of the content and his outspokenness on many things. Then the sheeple started saying it was wack like a mantra after a few so-called tastemakers said it. the end."
With Act II's status seemingly changing every few months, you'd be forgiven for not taking Jay Electronica's latest words as the gospel truth, but let's hope he's for real this time.
