Earlier this month, Isaiah Rashad made his welcomed return with a new single, "Free Lunch," his first track since January. He soon revealed that he'd be the next TDE artist to drop an album, as he shared a release date of Sept. 2 for his yet-to-be-titled project. It'll technically be his debut album, as his last project, Cilvia Demo, released in Jan. 2014, was a 14-track EP. Rashad has come through today with another new track, entitled "I Mean. Yet again, it's a bold and triumphant effort from one of the most talented members of the game-changing California label.
The raps are delivered spontaneously in one emotional outburst, sounding more exasperated as the song goes on. He knows how to unfold such drama in a manner that's both intricate but immediately relatable. A main focus of the song is the simultaneous feelings of guilt and glory he experiences during sex, but the conflicting emotions extend to many aspects of his identity. The resonant, sample-heavy production of "I Mean" comes from Black Metaphor.
Damn, TDE could have a classic on their hands... Check back with us on Sept. 2nd.
