Pun-friendly rapper Hoodie Allen is gearing up to drop a new album, People Keep Talking, on October 14th. Today, we get to hear "Dumb For You" from the upcoming project.
A poppy, upbeat track (as most Hoodie joints are), "Dumb For You" takes a guitar line that would sound at home on a Taylor Swift song, adds in a piano playing the same melody and a pretty sterile boom bap beat, and off it goes. Consider it the "Rude" for people who prefer rap to reggae.
Allen busts through with choice lines like "they're calling me the people's champ" (don't tell Paul Wall) and "the white boy to your Wes Snipes," and by the looks of the cover art, he's graduated from sweatshirts to button-ups. Everybody's gotta grow up sometime, even frat rappers.
Quotable Lyrics:
Real talk, I'm the white boy to your Wes Snipes
I'm East Coast, but it's all love on the West Side
Your girlfriend is a close friend of my bedside
She want D's and I ain't talkin' the breast size
