G-Eazy has found commercial success in his pop-influenced take on Bay Area rap, but he's looking to take a step back to his roots on his next project. Speaking with Bootleg Kev, the rapper shared plans for a mixtape that will find him focusing on loop-based production, a
"I've got this project I just decided I was gonna do. It's kind of back to what first started to put me on... I miss sampling," he said. "I'm already two songs in. All summer, I'm in the studio all day, I'm knocking out features and I'm working on this tape."
On top of new verses, it sounds like Eazy will also be working on the production of the project. "It's all like boom-bap drums... I miss making beats," he revealed.
While he didn't share a title or release date, the rapper did suggest the tape would be out sometime this year. Watch the interview below. Word on the project begins at the 16 minute mark.
