Following the backlash surrounding Lil Wayne's lyrics on Future's "Karate Chop (Remix)," Epic Records has released an apology and statement about it. The lyric in question uses Emmett Till's name, comparing the young teen who was brutally killed over 50 years ago, to Weezy's skills in bed.
Epic Records confirmed the track was leaked, and will be edited by the label. In addition, the label said they are putting a lot of effort into removing the track's online presence.
"We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future's 'Karate Chop,' which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics," Epic Records' statement said. "Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr….we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version."
Epic Records has plans to re-release the single without the offending line. Wayne has yet to respond to the controversy, however L.A. Reid has reached out to the Till family to apologize.
