Fading

Up-and-coming R&B crooner Elijah Blake has written for artists such as Rick Ross, Rihanna, and Trey Songz, and he proved his songwriting chops once and for all when he co-penned "Climax", probably Usher's best song in the last decade. He continues to establish himself as one of R&B's premier lyricists and storytellers with "Fading," a single off his 14-song album Shadows & Diamonds set to drop on June 23.

"Fading" has a nice arc, starting off with some intimate guitar before escalating and expanding to a big room sound on the chorus. It's a catchy head-nodder, but really it's a story about a girl with substance abuse issues who ends up overdosing on her man's amphetamines... damn.

If you're feeling it pre-order Shadows & Diamonds here.

Quotable Lyrics:

Just like the autumn leaves fall, April brings the rain
Separation slices like a blade, but only generates the pain
How could something so clear become so vain.
