On Friday, it was announced that Apple will buy Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine's headphones-and-streaming company Beats Electronic for an estimated $3.2 billion. Though details of the acquisition are still foggy at best, The Wall Street Journal now reports that Apple will hire Dre and Iovine for senior positions within the company.
Though their official job titles are not known at this moment, both of them will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook, which means they will be quite far up the job ladder at the company, about as far from Apple Store Geniuses as you can get while still working for the computer manufacturer. WSJ surmises that the duo "could help Tim Cook broker deals in the music industry," which makes sense when taking Dre's star power into account.
What's next for Apple/Beats? Will iTunes and Beats Music merge? Will Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine star in an "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC"-style commercial? Will Detox ever come out now that Dre's a billionaire? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
