Over two months ago, Southside let it slip that he had taken part in producing a record that features Future, Jay Z, and DJ Khaled. The next month, it was revealed that this particular anthem indeed exists and that it belongs to DJ Khaled. Reserved for his upcoming album, Major Key, the kingpin collaboration was titled "I Got the Keys." Summer is now fully underway, and as much of the hip-hop world was tuned into the BET Awards tonight, Khaled decided that the time was ripe to finally share his highly anticipated new single.
And equally anticipated was the "I Got the Keys" video, which has now arrived, just after the song made its way online. The video premiered immediately after tonight's awards ceremony on BET. As was expected, it features a number of hip-hop elites -- basically everyone who's ever been given a key and used it to unlock an empire. Rap moguls like Pusha T, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti, T.I., and many more show up looking more bossed-up than ever before.
Note that these are all industry legends who have achieved their legacies against insurmountable odds. The video is clearly a show of black and brown pride, directed at the authorities who never wanted them to have any. What powerful camaraderie from some of the most important men our genre has ever seen.
DJ Khaled's Major Key is set to arrive on July 29.
